Tips on How to Eliminate Frustration with Natural Hair


Frustrated with your hair? It happens to the best of us. 

Sometimes no matter what products or techniques that you use, your hair just doesn't want to cooperate. Here are some of my favorite tips on how to avoid frustration when dealing with natural hair. 

Tip#1 - NEVER do your hair when you're mad

Whenever you're not in the best mood or you just don't feel like dealing with your hair...don't. It's just that simple. You can cause more damage to your hair strands from forceful tugs and pulls than you may know. 

Tip#2- Always have a go-to style

It's completely natural to want to try different looks with your natural hair. However, natural hair has a mind of its own sometimes. It's important to always have a back up go to style just in case your initial style doesn't turn out right.

Tip#3- Focus on ONE hair goal at a time

Everyone should have a natural hair goal. Your goal doesn't have to necessarily be a length retention goal, some goals can be as simple as wanting healthy hair. The way to attack and accomplish your goals is to focus on one goal at a time. Don't overwhelm yourself or your hair by trying to accomplish every goal at once. Furthermore, more goals are intertwined. So just by focusing and putting your efforts into accomplishing one goal you are actually taking steps towards completing several of your other goals as well. 

Tip#4- Your hair routine must fit your realistic lifestyle

 One of the most common problems in the natural hair community is that when someone makes the decision to be natural they want to adjust their entire life to a more "natural" lifestyle. They start throwing away product with certain ingredients, only wanting to do techniques on their hair that other naturals were doing on youtube. However, your hair routine has to fit your lifestyle in order to be effective. For example, if you work 80 hour weeks and are already finding it hard to make time to fit everything in your schedule, then creating a 5-hour hair routine might be biting off more than one can chew. Your hair routine has to fit the lifestyle that you are accustomed to or you must change your lifestyle to fit your hair routine. Either choice will work. However, one or the other must be made.
