4 Easy Tips on How to Grow Long and Healthy Hair

Posted by Kalen Spate on

Everyone who has grown their hair out knows the battle of waiting for hair growth to happen. Sadly, you can't snap your fingers and grow long tresses overnight, but following these 4 tips will ensure that all your patience will eventually pay off.

Tip #1 Set a Realistic Goal...and be patient

There's a difference in saying, "I want to grow longer hair" versus "I want to grow 3 inches of hair in 3 months".You have to plan your hair goals! How will you accomplish your goals? How long do you give yourself to reach that goal? Set a goal. Develop a plan and get to growing!

Tip #2 Deep Conditioning with Heat

Heat is not always the enemy. It actually is the answer to a lot of the dry and brittle hair problems you may experience. Next time you are conditioning your hair, leave the conditioner in put a plastic bag or plastic shower cap over your head and sit under a dryer for 15-30 minutes. Deep conditioning helps your hair to retain moisture for longer stretches of time in between wash days.

Tip #3 Document Your Hair Length with Photos or a Length Journal

When was the last time you went outside and watched a tree grow? I sure have NOT. Hopefully, no one has. It sounds like a very time consuming task. Growth takes TIME. Don't spend so much time worrying about seeing the growth; instead, measure your hair once every three months and record the various lengths of your hair in a journal. You could even take photos once every 3 months for a year and compare the results. Trust me, you'll be surprised at the subtle changes that you may have overlooked once before.

Tip #4 Find a Hair Twin

A hair twin is someone who has a similar hair texture and type as you. They don't have to be at the same point in their hair journey. It would actually be more beneficial for you to find a hair twin more experienced than you. A hair twin is the perfect solution for hair struggles. You'll have someone you can compare hair regimens with, get their opinions on what products to try and even discuss your hair frustrations. The best place to find a hair twin could be within your family, circle of friends or even in the natural hair community on YouTube. Here are some of my favorite Natural Hair YouTubers:
